World Water Day

When I was younger, I used to wonder as to why we need all these days named after one of the causes that we all know and do something about.
But as I grew up, I realized how wrong I was.

As kids, my sister and I were very conscious about switching the light off as we exited from any room.
We never let the tap run as we brushed or washed our faces. Despite the fact that a simple routine of washing face would require turning the tap on and off thrice, but we still did it.
If there’s some water left in the bottle for too long, and we won’t drink it, we’d go out and water one of the plants with it.

Of course we were not born with these habits. It was our parents who instilled these within us.

Even today, I can’t bring myself to -
Let any tap run as I am brushing the pearl-ies(my teeth you see)

Throw away that bucket full of clean water even if I don’t need it. I feel so guilty even throwing one mug of that clean precious water away.

Stay in the warm cozy bed if I can hear a leak somewhere. Even a tip-tap needs to be checked!

Not to turn off even if it is a public water faucet.

Not to tell people (my hostel mates, my maids, random strangers all included) off if they leave the taps running.

There are a lot of walks being organized; one was at India Gate, New Delhi on the 19th, if I am not wrong.
These walks are not for the ones who know. These are for generating awareness amongst those who don’t.
After all not all of us are blessed with parents who care enough. And who teach the kids to do so as well.

I don’t think I can go for walks and such, but, my contribution would be, when I have my own lot, teaching them to be responsible.

That is really inspiring!
And I held similar views regarding having special days/years for different causes. But from now on, I understand the significance :)

after so many years of turning the lights and the taps off on their bidding, I am glad I can do my bit now. :)

Hmmm... Quiet sensitive. Never went so deep into it. Infact I never knew that there is something called world water day.

Me too I had the same habit! But becoming an adult now,I'm taking up the responsibility quite seriously!! Switching unnecessary lights off and closing the tap and saving energy whenever and wherever needed! :)

Good luck for the contest!! :)

It is indeed upon us to make this world a better place. :)

Water - such a valuable resource. I'm glad you thought of writing about it, what with ice-caps and other sources melting because of global warming.
