All that my fb page is telling me today is that it’s ‘karvachauth’ and that most of the girls on my contacts are fasting for ‘the one’.
I just wanted to fathom the relevance of such customs in today’s world for our generation.
There was this girl I knew who’d fast for her boyfriend. Erm, for all of them. At least that’s what she told me. Every year she’d be fasting for the ‘current’ one. Eventually, she married some one else altogether, seems to be happy, and is fasting for him today, I guess.
Does the fasting mean anything to us?
What do the men do on ‘karvachauth’? They lead normal routine lives. They on this day, as any other, go to work. They on this day, as any other, stare around at other women. They on this day, as any other, maybe fantasize about them as well.
Does the fasting really mean anything to them?
Fasting as fasting goes, on ‘karvachauth’ means nothing.
It is only a small ritual which is might mean a lot more if it was observed as it is.
As a token of selfless love and devotion(by the wives) and as a renewal of the marital vows(by the husbands).
Selfless love, come again.
